Position Overview

The Summer Football Coach is responsible for developing football athletes during the off-season by improving speed, strength, explosiveness, conditioning, and football IQ in preparation for the upcoming season.

This role focuses on translating D1’s training philosophy into football-specific performance, helping athletes gain a competitive edge before fall camp.

Job Summary

  • Foster a high-energy, competitive, and motivating training environment

  • Prepare athletes for football season through structured strength & conditioning programs

  • Improve speed, agility, and explosiveness specific to football performance

  • Maximize athlete retention through elite coaching, accountability, and relationship-building

  • Teach discipline, work ethic, and mental toughness

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead football-specific group training sessions and camps

  • Develop and implement off-season football performance programs

  • Coach proper sprint mechanics, change of direction, and position-specific movements

  • Incorporate drills focused on:

    • Acceleration & top-end speed

    • Agility & reaction

    • Power & explosiveness

    • Conditioning for game performance

  • Modify and adapt exercises based on age, skill level, and position

  • Reduce injury risk through proper technique, mobility, and movement patterns

  • Track athlete progress and provide performance feedback

  • Build strong relationships with athletes and parents

  • Maintain a competitive, team-oriented training environment

Coaching Expectations

A D1 Summer Football Coach must:

  • Bring high energy, passion, and leadership to every session

  • Start and finish sessions on time with structured programming

  • Teach proper technique and ensure athlete safety at all times

  • Act as a mentor and role model for young athletes

  • Deliver elite-level coaching in:

    • Strength & conditioning

    • Speed & agility

    • Football movement and performance

Qualifications

  • Valid AED/CPR/First Aid Certification

  • At least one NCCA-accredited certification (CSCS, NASM, etc.)

  • Minimum 1 year of strength & conditioning or football coaching experience

  • Playing or coaching experience in football (high school, college, or higher preferred)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or related field (preferred)

Compensation: $50.00 - $75.00 per hour
